Overview

What this migration involves

Migrating from GENIEE to Monday.com CRM requires navigating GENIEE's lack of a documented public API, its dual-product architecture separating SFA/CRM contact records from DSP campaign data, and its Japanese-language interface throughout the export process. We sequence two separate export workflows for these subsystems, engage Japanese-speaking data engineers for field label discovery, and translate the resulting record structures into Monday.com's board-based data model. GENIEE pipeline stages map to Monday.com board Groups, Companies map to People entities with linked Boards, and DSP campaign metadata migrates as custom fields or a separate integration board. We do not migrate GENIEE MA automations or DSP targeting rules as code; we deliver written inventories for the customer's admin to rebuild in Monday.com's automation framework. Timeline ranges from four to eight weeks depending on record volume and data set complexity, with pricing between $9,000 and $20,000 for typical CRM-record migrations.

Why teams make this switch

Two sides of the same decision

Leaving

GENIEE logo

GENIEE

What's pushing teams away

  • Heavy Japan focus — UI, support, documentation, and partner ecosystem are Japanese-first, so multinational teams outside Japan find it hard to operate without local support.
  • Smaller third-party integration ecosystem versus Salesforce, HubSpot, or Zoho — non-Japanese SaaS tools rarely have prebuilt connectors, so connections must be built through GENIEE's API or iPaaS.
  • Sales-led pricing and limited global price transparency make budget comparison difficult for buyers benchmarking against globally-listed CRMs.
  • Phase-based negotiation model and Japanese hearing-item conventions, while a strength domestically, are a poor fit for teams used to forecasting around US-style probability-weighted pipeline.
  • Reporting and analytics, while sufficient for the domestic Japanese market, are narrower than the BI layers of larger SFAs once teams want cross-region or product-line dashboards.

Choosing

monday CRM logo

monday CRM

What's pulling them in

  • Users praise the board-based visual interface for making pipeline stages immediately legible to non-technical team members without CRM training.
  • The no-code automation builder lets sales ops teams create lead routing, stage updates, and email triggers without developer involvement.
  • Integration ecosystem connects to Slack, Gmail, Outlook, and Zapier with minimal configuration, reducing friction for teams already using these tools.
  • The flexible column system lets teams build custom CRM views — deal value, close date, lead source — without needing a developer or pre-defined schema.
  • Teams already using monday Work Management can layer CRM features onto existing boards rather than starting from scratch.

Object mapping

How GENIEE objects map to monday CRM

Each row shows how a GENIEE object lands in monday CRM, including any object-level transformations, lookup resolution, or schema-design dependencies.

Typical mapping — final map is confirmed during the sample migration step.

GENIEE

Contact

maps to

monday CRM

People (CRM board item)

1:1
Fully supported

GENIEE SFA/CRM Contact records map to Monday.com CRM People entities. We extract Contact fields (name, email, phone, company association, owner) through the GENIEE export interface with Japanese field label translation handled by our Japanese-speaking scoping team. The Monday.com People board is created first so that Company linking is resolved at insert time. Custom fields on GENIEE Contacts map to Monday.com column types: text fields to Text columns, dates to Date columns, numeric values to Numbers columns, and multi-select options to Dropdown or Tag columns.

GENIEE

Company/Account

maps to

monday CRM

Company (CRM entity)

1:1
Fully supported

GENIEE Account records map to Monday.com CRM Companies. Company name, website, industry, regional classification, and custom fields migrate. Japanese regional conventions used in GENIEE Accounts (prefecture codes, location identifiers) are preserved as text fields or mapped to Monday.com Dropdown columns with standardized region values defined during scoping. Account records are migrated before Contacts to satisfy the Company-People relationship.

GENIEE

Deal/Opportunity

maps to

monday CRM

Deal (CRM board item)

1:1
Fully supported

GENIEE Deal records map to Monday.com CRM Deals, which appear as items on the Deals board. GENIEE pipeline stages map to Monday.com board Groups, with each Group name set to match the source pipeline stage label. Deal fields (amount, close date, owner, associated Contact and Company) map to Monday.com column types. The GENIEE dealstage property and win/loss probability values migrate as Dropdown and Number columns respectively.

GENIEE

Pipeline Stage

maps to

monday CRM

Board Group

lossy
Fully supported

GENIEE pipeline stage names (configured per tenant in Japanese or with English aliases) map to Monday.com Groups within the Deals board. We extract the full stage list during scoping, assign each a Group in the Monday.com Deals board, and preserve the stage sequence order. Probability values associated with each stage migrate as a Number column or as Group metadata. Stage conversion rules are documented for the customer admin to configure Monday.com automation triggers per stage transition.

GENIEE

Marketing Campaign

maps to

monday CRM

Board item (Campaign board)

1:1
Fully supported

GENIEE MA Campaigns migrate to a dedicated Monday.com Campaign board with items representing individual campaigns. Campaign attribution data (UTM parameters, source, medium) migrates as Text columns. Campaign start and end dates migrate as Date columns. Campaign associations to GENIEE Contacts migrate as Monday.com Column Connections linking Campaign items to the corresponding People records.

GENIEE

DSP Campaign

maps to

monday CRM

Custom board or Custom Fields

1:many
Fully supported

GENIEE DSP campaign metadata (budget, targeting parameters, ad formats, flight dates, impression and click data) does not map to standard Monday.com CRM objects. We export DSP campaign records as a separate data set and migrate the key business fields as items on a dedicated DSP reporting board or as Custom Object entries. Inventory and bid-log structures from the SSP are exported as flat records and flagged as SSP-specific data requiring a separate reporting solution.

GENIEE

User/Owner

maps to

monday CRM

Team member / User

1:1
Fully supported

GENIEE SFA/CRM User records (name, email, role, department) map to Monday.com team members. We resolve by email match. Any GENIEE Owner referenced on Contact, Account, or Deal records without a matching Monday.com User is held in a reconciliation queue for the customer's admin to provision before record import. Active and inactive status is preserved as a boolean field on the mapped user.

GENIEE

Tag/Label

maps to

monday CRM

Tag column

1:1
Fully supported

GENIEE Tags on Contacts and Companies migrate to Monday.com Tag columns. Tag vocabulary is tenant-defined and preserved as-is. Monday.com Tag columns support multiple tags per item, matching GENIEE's multi-tag model. If a tag vocabulary exceeds 100 unique values, we propose consolidation rules during scoping to avoid unwieldy tag lists in Monday.com.

GENIEE

Attachment

maps to

monday CRM

File column

1:1
Fully supported

Attachments on GENIEE Contacts, Accounts, and Deals are exported as binary files and re-uploaded to Monday.com as File column entries on the corresponding items. Original filenames and file type metadata are preserved. Size and type limits for Monday.com file uploads (up to 250 MB per file) are validated during scoping; any GENIEE attachments exceeding this limit are flagged for the customer's admin to store externally and link.

GENIEE

Custom Property

maps to

monday CRM

Custom column

1:1
Fully supported

GENIEE SFA/CRM custom fields vary by tenant and are discovered during the scoping phase. We generate a complete field inventory, map each custom property to the equivalent Monday.com column type (Text, Number, Date, Dropdown, Checkbox, Email, Phone, Link), and handle type conversions where GENIEE field types do not map directly to Monday.com column types. Custom field dependencies and conditional logic from GENIEE are documented as configuration notes for the customer admin to implement in Monday.com automations.

Pair-specific challenges

  • GENIEE has no documented public API for automated export

GENIEE does not publish a REST API or developer documentation for data extraction. Known export paths are manual export interfaces accessible through the GENIEE UI or data dumps generated by GENIEE account management on request. We coordinate with GENIEE account management to request structured data exports for SFA/CRM records and DSP campaign data. This adds a coordination step requiring customer-side authorization and extends the discovery phase by two to four weeks compared to API-first platforms. We use screen-scraping of export interfaces where accessible and machine-assisted Japanese-to-English translation for field label discovery.

  • Monday.com rate limits constrain bulk import speed

Monday.com's API enforces approximately 60 requests per minute on Standard and Pro plans. Large record migrations (over 10,000 Contacts or Deals) require batch chunking and rate-limit-aware request handling to avoid 429 responses that pause import. We implement exponential backoff and request queuing, targeting 80% of the observed rate limit to leave headroom. This extends large migrations by a factor of two to three compared to platforms with higher bulk API throughput.

  • Monday.com has no equivalent to GENIEE's native pipeline stage model

GENIEE SFA/CRM offers a structured pipeline stage model with stage names, probability percentages, and win/loss reasons per tenant configuration. Monday.com approximates this with board Groups, but there is no native StageName property, probability field, or stage-specific automation trigger equivalent to what traditional CRMs offer. We map pipeline stages to Groups and use Number and Dropdown columns for probability and win/loss data, but stage-transition automations must be rebuilt in Monday.com's automation framework post-migration using Group-based triggers.

  • GENIEE DSP campaign data does not map to Monday.com CRM objects

GENIEE DSP campaigns include targeting parameters, budget allocations, ad formats, flight dates, and performance metrics (impressions, clicks, bid logs) that have no equivalent in Monday.com CRM's standard data model. We export DSP campaign metadata as custom data and migrate it to a dedicated Monday.com board or flag it for a separate reporting solution. SSP publisher inventory data (slot IDs, floor prices, device classifications) is exported as-is but cannot function as CRM records in Monday.com.

  • GENIEE MA automations do not migrate to Monday.com automations

GENIEE marketing automation workflows linking campaign interactions to SFA/CRM record updates do not transfer to Monday.com's automation framework because the trigger-event models differ. We deliver a written inventory of every active GENIEE MA automation, documenting its trigger, conditions, and actions with a recommended Monday.com automation equivalent. Rebuilding these automations in Monday.com's automation framework falls within the customer's admin scope post-migration.

Migration approach

Six steps for a successful GENIEE to monday CRM data migration

  1. Export coordination and discovery

We engage GENIEE account management to request structured data exports for SFA/CRM records (Contacts, Accounts, Deals, Users, Attachments) and DSP campaign metadata. Our Japanese-speaking scoping team translates GENIEE field labels and UI text during discovery. We audit the GENIEE export interfaces, estimate export file formats (CSV, Excel), and identify any fields requiring manual pre-processing. We also inventory GENIEE MA automations, custom fields, pipeline stages, and tag vocabularies for the written handoff document.

  2. Monday.com workspace and board configuration

We configure the Monday.com CRM workspace: the Deals board (with Groups mapped to GENIEE pipeline stages), the People board, the Companies board, and any Campaign or DSP reporting boards. Column types are defined per field in the GENIEE field inventory. Custom fields are created as typed columns. Team member accounts are provisioned to match the GENIEE User roster. All configuration happens in a dedicated Monday.com workspace before record migration begins.

  3. Data extraction, cleansing, and transformation

We extract GENIEE SFA/CRM records through the coordinated export, process the files (encoding normalization for Japanese text, date format standardization, deduplication pass on Contacts and Accounts), and transform the schema into Monday.com import-ready format. DSP campaign data is extracted as a separate data set. Any records with missing required fields (name, email) are flagged for the customer's admin to enrich before import. Attachments are extracted as binary files and associated with their parent records by filename convention.

  4. Record migration in dependency order

We migrate Monday.com workspace configuration records first (Users/team members, custom field definitions), then Companies (to enable People-Company linking), then People, then Deals. DSP campaign metadata migrates last as a separate board. Attachments upload in parallel with record inserts, linked by parent record identifier. We apply rate-limit-aware chunking for all Monday.com API calls and emit a reconciliation report (record count per object, attachment count) after each phase before proceeding.

  5. Validation and reconciliation

We reconcile record counts between the GENIEE export and Monday.com destination, spot-checking 25-50 records per object type for field-level accuracy. Special attention is given to Japanese text encoding (UTF-8 validation), Deal amount and close date accuracy, and Contact-Company linkage integrity. DSP campaign board items are verified against the GENIEE DSP export for key fields (campaign name, budget, targeting parameters). The customer's RevOps lead reviews and signs off the reconciliation report.

  6. Cutover and automation rebuild handoff

We freeze GENIEE SFA/CRM as the system of record during cutover, run a final delta migration for any records modified during the cutover window, then confirm Monday.com as the active CRM. We deliver the written automation inventory documenting every GENIEE MA workflow and its recommended Monday.com automation equivalent. We do not rebuild GENIEE MA automations in Monday.com as code; that scope falls to the customer's admin or a Monday.com implementation partner. We offer a one-week hypercare window for reconciliation issues raised by the sales team post-go-live.

GENIEE

Source

Strengths

  • No. 1 SSP market share in Japan for six consecutive years with over 5,000 Asia publishers in the network
  • Proprietary in-house developed advertising distribution platform processing hundreds of thousands of bids per second
  • Full ad stack combining SSP, DSP, SFA/CRM, and MA under one group
  • Tokyo Stock Exchange listed since 2017 with publicly documented financials
  • Integration ecosystem with Google AdSense, DoubleClick Ad Exchange, DV360, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn

Weaknesses

  • No publicly documented REST API or developer portal for automated data exports
  • Japanese-language documentation creates a barrier for international teams evaluating migration
  • AdTech SSP/DSP data model is fundamentally different from standard CRM, requiring custom object mapping
  • GENIEE SFA/CRM is a secondary product line; the core business is programmatic advertising infrastructure
  • Limited English-language public information makes independent technical due diligence difficult

Strengths

  • Board-based UI makes pipeline stages and deal progress visually obvious without training.
  • No-code automation builder requires no developer resources to create lead routing and stage-triggered actions.
  • Flexible column system supports custom CRM fields without schema changes or admin involvement.
  • Integrates natively with Slack, Gmail, Outlook, and Zapier with minimal configuration overhead.
  • Layered product means teams already on monday Work Management can add CRM without migrating existing data.

Weaknesses

  • No native Contacts object separate from Items — contacts are managed inside a CRM module's People feature.
  • Pipeline and deal relationships use a flat item model rather than a relational object model, making complex CRM associations awkward.
  • Automations are plan-gated (250 actions/month on Standard, 25,000 on Pro) and the legacy Recipe system is being deprecated.
  • Customization and advanced views (Chart, Formula, Dependency) are locked behind Pro and Enterprise tiers.
  • Per-seat pricing with non-refundable annual billing creates cost lock-in risk during migration.
