Overview

What this migration involves

Moving from FranConnect to Monday.com CRM is a schema redesign, not a direct record copy. FranConnect organizes data around franchise-specific hierarchies: Leads in the development pipeline, Franchisees tied to ownership agreements, Units at physical locations, Territories with geographic boundaries, and Royalty Manager records tracking financial obligations. Monday.com CRM uses a board-and-item model where Contacts and Deals are items on customizable boards, with columns replacing standard fields. We map FranConnect's franchise objects to Monday.com items on CRM boards and flag where franchise-specific concepts (territories, royalty records, site visits) lack a native Monday.com equivalent and require a custom object or manual rebuild. We do not migrate FranConnect Workflows, Drip Campaigns, or the BI/Analytics module as these have no Monday.com analog. We deliver a written inventory of automations requiring board-based rebuild by the customer's admin post-migration.

Why teams make this switch

Two sides of the same decision

Leaving

FranConnect logo

FranConnect

What's pushing teams away

  • Interface navigation is non-intuitive for new users — the learning curve is steep and the home button layout requires multiple clicks to reach key sections
  • Perceived complexity for smaller franchise systems — some operators find the feature breadth overwhelming relative to their actual needs
  • Reports indicate the platform can slow during peak usage hours, affecting performance visibility when it matters most
  • Switching costs are significant given the franchise-specific data model — lead pipelines, task checklists, and royalty structures are tightly coupled to FranConnect conventions
  • Enterprise pricing without a free trial creates commitment risk, particularly for emerging brands evaluating fit before full adoption

Choosing

monday CRM logo

monday CRM

What's pulling them in

  • Users praise the board-based visual interface for making pipeline stages immediately legible to non-technical team members without CRM training.
  • The no-code automation builder lets sales ops teams create lead routing, stage updates, and email triggers without developer involvement.
  • Integration ecosystem connects to Slack, Gmail, Outlook, and Zapier with minimal configuration, reducing friction for teams already using these tools.
  • The flexible column system lets teams build custom CRM views — deal value, close date, lead source — without needing a developer or pre-defined schema.
  • Teams already using monday Work Management can layer CRM features onto existing boards rather than starting from scratch.

Object mapping

How FranConnect objects map to monday CRM

Each row shows how a FranConnect object lands in monday CRM, including any object-level transformations, lookup resolution, or schema-design dependencies.

Typical mapping — final map is confirmed during the sample migration step.

FranConnect

Contact (Franchisee Representatives)

maps to

monday CRM

Contact Item on CRM Board

1:1
Fully supported

FranConnect Contacts covering both franchisor staff and franchisee representatives map to Monday.com Contact items on the CRM board. Standard fields (name, email, phone, address) migrate to Contact columns. Custom contact properties map to additional Monday.com columns typed to match (text, number, date, dropdown). We resolve any duplicate emails during import using Monday.com's duplicate-detection rules.

FranConnect

Lead (Franchise Development)

maps to

monday CRM

Lead Item on CRM Board

1:1
Fully supported

FranConnect Leads entering the franchise development pipeline map to Monday.com Lead items on the CRM board. Lead status, source categories, and owner assignments migrate to Monday.com column values. Drip campaign membership status migrates as a read-only column value; the active campaign logic requires rebuild via Monday.com Automation Center post-migration.

FranConnect

Franchisee

maps to

monday CRM

Contact Item with Custom Object or Group

lossy
Fully supported

FranConnect Franchisee records (individuals or entities operating units) with associated agreements, territories, and ownership stakes map to Monday.com Contact items with a Franchisee Info group of columns capturing agreement type, ownership percentage, and franchise agreement status. We flag which franchisee fields lack a native Monday.com equivalent and document them for the customer to configure as custom columns.

FranConnect

Unit (Location/Site)

maps to

monday CRM

Board Item (Locations)

1:1
Fully supported

FranConnect Units representing physical franchise locations map to items on a Monday.com Locations board. Address, status, owner assignment, and custom site-level fields migrate to typed columns. Multi-unit hierarchies are flattened into a single Locations board with an optional Group By location type; complex multi-level hierarchies may require a separate parent-location column.

FranConnect

Territory

maps to

monday CRM

Board Item or Group

lossy
Fully supported

FranConnect Territory records defining geographic boundaries tied to franchise agreements map to Monday.com items on a Territories board or as named Groups on the Units board. Geographic definitions (coordinates, polygons) do not have a native Monday.com type; we migrate the territory name, associated units list, and exclusivity flags and recommend a mapping tool for territorial visualization outside Monday.com.

FranConnect

Royalty Manager Records

maps to

monday CRM

Board Item (Financials)

lossy
Mapping required

FranConnect Royalty Mgr records including invoices, payments, and royalty calculations tied to units and franchisee agreements map to items on a Monday.com Financials board. Financial ledger fields (invoice number, amount, payment date, status) migrate to number and date columns. We flag that Monday.com is not a financial system and recommend that the customer maintains a financial system of record for royalty compliance while using Monday.com for ledger reference data.

FranConnect

Site Visit

maps to

monday CRM

Board Item (Site Visits)

1:1
Fully supported

FranConnect Site Visit records tracking inspections, audits, and compliance visits at units map to items on a Monday.com Site Visits board. Visit summary, completion status, scoring data, and response analysis migrate to typed columns. We note that audit charts and scoring dashboards are platform-rendered artifacts that do not migrate; we provide the underlying data as columns for the customer's admin to rebuild in Monday.com Dashboard widgets.

FranConnect

Task (Checklist)

maps to

monday CRM

Board Item or Subtask

1:1
Fully supported

FranConnect Tasks and checklists used for opening procedures, compliance workflows, and operational SOPs map to Monday.com items or subtasks. Task groups, dependencies, mandatory/optional flags, and reminder schedules migrate with notes on which Monday.com automation triggers can replicate the reminder logic. Recurring task patterns require rebuild in Monday.com Automation Center.

FranConnect

Training Record

maps to

monday CRM

Board Item (Training)

1:1
Fully supported

FranConnect Training module tracking learning completion, certifications, and course progress for franchisee employees maps to items on a Monday.com Training board. Enrollment records and completion status migrate as columns; quiz scores and LMS-specific metadata do not have a Monday.com equivalent and are documented as manual-rebuild items.

FranConnect

Document

maps to

monday CRM

File Attachment (linked to item)

1:1
Fully supported

FranConnect documents linked to Leads, Units, Franchisees, and Tasks migrate as file attachments on the corresponding Monday.com items. We extract document metadata and URLs where accessible via FranConnect API. Binary file transfers are handled via FranConnect's document API with URL references preserved in Monday.com item columns.

Pair-specific challenges

  • Franchise-specific data model lacks native Monday.com equivalents

FranConnect stores franchise data in objects (Territories, Royalty Mgr, Site Visits, Training Records) that have no direct Monday.com CRM equivalent. Monday.com is a board-and-item system designed for sales CRM and work management, not franchise lifecycle tracking. We map these to custom boards and columns, but territory geographic data, royalty calculations, and training scoring are not native to Monday.com. The customer must decide during scoping whether to maintain a separate franchise operations system or accept a simplified representation in Monday.com CRM.

  • Monday.com does not migrate FranConnect Workflows or drip campaigns

FranConnect's workflow builder automates franchise SOPs, compliance checklists, and lead drip sequences tied to franchise development milestones. Monday.com's Automation Center uses trigger-action rules scoped per board and does not have a drip sequence (time-delayed, multi-step cadence) feature. We do not migrate these as functional code. We deliver a written inventory of every active FranConnect workflow and drip campaign with its trigger, conditions, and recommended Monday.com Automation Center rebuild steps for the customer's admin to implement.

  • FranConnect API token refresh and module coverage gaps

FranConnect OAuth tokens expire after 12 hours with a 30-day refresh window; tokens older than 30 days require manual re-authentication. Additionally, not all FranConnect modules have documented REST API endpoints (notably the BI/Analytics module). We identify which modules have API access during discovery and use CSV-based exports where the API is unavailable. Large CSV exports require date-format normalization (MM/DD/YYYY) and character restrictions before Monday.com import to avoid validation failures.

  • Monday.com custom objects require developer setup

Monday.com's custom objects (for representing franchise entities without a native CRM equivalent) require building through the Developer Center as iframe-based apps served from a custom URL or CDN. This is not a point-and-click configuration; it requires development resources to build and host the custom object view. We flag custom object requirements during scoping so the customer can decide whether to invest in developer resources or accept a simplified board-based representation.

  • Monday.com CRM does not have a BI/Analytics module

FranConnect's BI module generates franchise performance visualizations, Command Center KPI dashboards, and benchmarking reports. Monday.com CRM offers Dashboard widgets with chart types and formula columns, but franchise benchmarking, multi-location KPI rollups, and performance comparison against industry averages (such as FranConnect's 5.5% annual growth metric) are not available. We migrate the underlying data (units, franchisee performance, royalty records) to Monday.com boards and columns; the customer's admin rebuilds dashboards from those columns.

Migration approach

Six steps for a successful FranConnect to monday CRM data migration

  1. Discovery and franchise-object audit

We audit the source FranConnect account across all modules: Leads and Contacts, Franchisees, Units, Territories, Royalty Mgr, Site Visits, Training Records, Tasks, Documents, and Drip Campaigns. We count records per object, identify custom fields, assess which modules have API access versus CSV-only export, and document the franchise-specific data relationships (franchisee-to-unit ownership, territory-to-unit assignment, royalty-to-unit linkage). The discovery output is a written migration scope specifying which objects migrate to Monday.com boards and which require customer-side rebuild or a separate system.

  2. Monday.com board schema design

We design the destination board structure in Monday.com CRM: a Contacts board (from FranConnect Contacts and Franchisee Representatives), a Leads board (from FranConnect Franchise Development Leads), a Locations board (from FranConnect Units), and custom boards for Territories, Financials, Site Visits, Training, and Tasks. We define column types (text, number, date, dropdown, formula, link) to match the source field types and create Groups per location type or franchisee category. Custom object requirements are flagged with a developer effort estimate.

  3. Data extraction and transformation

We extract FranConnect data via REST API where endpoints are documented and via CSV export for modules without API coverage. We transform field values to Monday.com column types: dates to YYYY-MM-DD, phone numbers to E.164 format, address components to structured columns. We apply FranConnect's CSV import rules (no line feed characters, numeric-only amount fields) and run deduplication passes on Contacts and Leads before generating Monday.com-compatible import files.

  4. Test migration and reconciliation

We run a full migration into a Monday.com test account using production-like record volume. The customer reconciles record counts across all boards, spot-checks 25-50 records against the FranConnect source, and validates that franchise relationships (franchisee-to-unit, territory-to-unit) are represented correctly in Monday.com column values and Groups. Mapping corrections happen in this phase before production migration begins.

  5. Production migration in board order

We run production migration in dependency order: Contacts and Franchisees (primary CRM records), then Leads, then Units and Locations, then Territories and Royalty records (with a note that Financials board is reference data only, not a financial system of record), then Site Visits and Training records, then Tasks and Documents. Each board emits a row-count reconciliation report. We freeze FranConnect writes during the final delta migration window.

  6. Cutover, validation, and workflow handoff

We enable Monday.com as the system of record after final reconciliation. We deliver the Workflow and Drip Campaign inventory document to the customer's admin team for rebuild in Monday.com Automation Center. We provide a one-week hypercare window for reconciliation issues. We do not rebuild FranConnect automations or drip campaigns as Monday.com automations inside the migration scope; that is documented for the customer's admin or a Monday.com partner to implement.

Platform deep dives

Context on both ends of the pair

FranConnect logo

FranConnect

Source

Strengths

  • Purpose-built for the entire franchise lifecycle from development through operations
  • Multi-location command center with real-time KPI dashboards across all units
  • REST API available for several modules with documented endpoints and OAuth authentication
  • Automated lead capture and drip campaign management with responsive support team
  • Performance benchmarking data showing 2.1x growth advantage for FranConnect customers

Weaknesses

  • Enterprise pricing without free trial or published tiers creates procurement friction
  • Navigation complexity — steep learning curve reported by new users on G2 reviews
  • Platform can experience performance slowdowns during peak usage hours
  • Switching costs are high due to franchise-specific data model tightly coupled to FranConnect conventions
  • Limited public API documentation for all modules — some modules lack documented export endpoints

Strengths

  • Board-based UI makes pipeline stages and deal progress visually obvious without training.
  • No-code automation builder requires no developer resources to create lead routing and stage-triggered actions.
  • Flexible column system supports custom CRM fields without schema changes or admin involvement.
  • Integrates natively with Slack, Gmail, Outlook, and Zapier with minimal configuration overhead.
  • Layered product means teams already on monday Work Management can add CRM without migrating existing data.

Weaknesses

  • No native Contacts object separate from Items — contacts are managed inside a CRM module's People feature.
  • Pipeline and deal relationships use a flat item model rather than a relational object model, making complex CRM associations awkward.
  • Automations are plan-gated (250 actions/month on Standard, 25,000 on Pro) and the legacy Recipe system is being deprecated.
  • Customization and advanced views (Chart, Formula, Dependency) are locked behind Pro and Enterprise tiers.
  • Per-seat pricing with non-refundable annual billing creates cost lock-in risk during migration.

Most migrations land between two and three weeks for accounts under 5,000 Contacts and 500 franchisee/unit records with no complex territory hierarchies. Migrations with territory records, royalty ledger history, site visit data, or large training record sets move to four to six weeks because of custom board design, parent-record lookup resolution, and the franchise-object mapping work. Monday.com board creation and column configuration add design time before data migration begins.
