Overview

What this migration involves

Moving from Clarify CRM to Nutshell is a structural migration from an AI-autonomous, credit-priced platform to a per-user SMB CRM with solid reporting and native integrations. Clarify uses one unified Contact model without a separate Lead object, which maps cleanly to Nutshell's Contact and Company structure. Clarify's autonomous field population (AI-enriched company details, deal context, meeting summaries) transfers as standard property values and note attachments rather than structured AI records. We audit Clarify's credit consumption per record during scoping so the customer can decide whether to strip AI-generated fields before import or carry them into Nutshell as-is. Workflows, automations, and opinionated AI agents do not migrate; we deliver a written inventory of every automation and rule requiring rebuild in Nutshell's workflow builder.

Why teams make this switch

Two sides of the same decision

Leaving

What's pushing teams away

  • AI still requires correction — it frequently populates company details with incorrect information that teams must manually override.
  • Limited native integrations today mean teams using specific tools must rebuild connections or abandon existing stacks entirely.
  • Advanced analytics and complex automation capabilities lag behind established CRMs like Salesforce and HubSpot, frustrating ops teams.
  • Rigid, custom workflows that change frequently are difficult to maintain in Clarify's opinionated autonomous framework.

Choosing

Nutshell logo

Nutshell

What's pulling them in

  • Lowest cost entry point among mid-market CRMs—Foundation plan starts at $13/user/month, making it accessible for teams validating CRM fit before committing.
  • Integrated sales automation and email sequencing on Pro plans without requiring a separate email marketing platform, per verified Capterra reviews.
  • Consistently praised for intuitive interface and fast onboarding, with case studies reporting 100% team adoption rates within initial deployment periods.
  • Strong customer support responsiveness cited across G2 reviews, with dedicated support tiers available on Enterprise plans.
  • Native integrations with WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and Slack reduce reliance on third-party middleware for common communication channels.

Object mapping

How Clarify CRM objects map to Nutshell

Each row shows how a Clarify CRM object lands in Nutshell, including any object-level transformations, lookup resolution, or schema-design dependencies.

Typical mapping — final map is confirmed during the sample migration step.

Clarify CRM

Contact

maps to

Nutshell

Contact

1:1
Fully supported

Clarify Contact records map directly to Nutshell Contact. Standard fields (name, email, phone, title, address) transfer 1:1. Clarify's AI-enriched properties (autonomously populated company details, contact context) transfer as standard text fields; the customer decides during scoping whether to preserve AI-generated values or strip them to plain data. Nutshell does not have a lifecycle stage property, so qualification status from Clarify migrates as a custom text field or tag for reporting.

Clarify CRM

Company

maps to

Nutshell

Company

1:1
Fully supported

Clarify Company records map to Nutshell Company. Domain-based enrichment from Clarify becomes the Website field. AI-populated company details (annual revenue, employee count, industry) transfer as custom fields on Nutshell Company; we flag any AI-introduced fields that may contain incorrect or stale data for customer review. Company is created before Contact import so that the relationship is satisfied at insert time.

Clarify CRM

Deal

maps to

Nutshell

Deal

1:1
Fully supported

Clarify Deal records map to Nutshell Deal. Deal value, close date, and stage transfer directly. Clarify's autonomous deal context (AI-generated summaries, deal health indicators) migrates as text fields or attached notes. We map Clarify's pipeline stages to Nutshell's pipeline stages using a 1:1 stage name mapping defined during scoping, creating equivalent Nutshell stages if they do not already exist.

Clarify CRM

Pipeline Stage

maps to

Nutshell

Pipeline Stage

lossy
Fully supported

Clarify's configurable pipeline stages map to Nutshell Pipeline stages. Each Clarify stage name becomes a Nutshell stage with an assigned probability percentage. We capture the full stage sequence and any custom stage names from Clarify, then configure equivalent Nutshell stages before Deal migration begins.

Clarify CRM

Activity (Call, Email, Meeting, Task)

maps to

Nutshell

Activity

1:1
Fully supported

Clarify activity records (calls, emails, meetings, tasks) map to Nutshell Activity. Activity type, date, duration, subject, and body transfer directly. The activity-party relationships (who participated) resolve to Nutshell Contact or Company lookups at migration time. Activity ordering is preserved by timestamp.

Clarify CRM

AI-Generated Meeting Summary

maps to

Nutshell

Note (attached to Activity)

1:1
Fully supported

Clarify's AI-generated meeting summaries are stored as enriched note content attached to activity records, not as first-class structured objects. We export these summaries as Nutshell Note records and attach them to the corresponding Activity via the Note-Activity relationship. Nutshell's note format preserves the summary text; the customer should review for completeness since summary quality depends on Clarify's original AI output.

Clarify CRM

Tag

maps to

Nutshell

Tag

1:1
Fully supported

Clarify tag-based labeling on records and deals maps to Nutshell Tags. We preserve all tag assignments during migration and map them 1:1 to Nutshell's tag system. Tag usage on Contacts, Companies, and Deals transfers with the record so that segmentation logic based on tags remains intact in Nutshell.

Clarify CRM

Custom Field

maps to

Nutshell

Custom Field

lossy
Fully supported

Clarify custom fields on standard objects (Contacts, Companies, Deals) map to Nutshell custom fields of equivalent type. We validate field types (text, number, date, currency, dropdown) against Nutshell's supported custom field types during schema mapping. Fields that cannot map directly (e.g., Clarify multi-select with values not supported in Nutshell) are flagged for the customer to resolve before migration.

Pair-specific challenges

  • Credit-based billing audit required before export

Clarify charges per AI action via credits, not per seat. Records that consumed premium AI credits (autonomous field updates, enrichment actions, meeting summaries) may carry inflated data or stale enrichment that was generated under credit consumption. We audit which records have AI-enriched fields during scoping and flag them for the customer to decide whether to preserve the AI-generated values or strip them to pre-enrichment state before import into Nutshell. Skipping this audit can result in incorrect company details, duplicate enrichment, or inflated deal context persisting in Nutshell.

  • 15 req/s API rate limit applies universally to export

Clarify enforces a flat 15 requests per second rate limit across all plans with no published per-tier differences. We chunk exports into sub-15-rps batches to avoid throttling. For large datasets, we implement exponential backoff retry logic and split export jobs across multiple scheduling windows. Without sub-rps batching, large Clarify exports stall or return 429 errors, extending the migration timeline unpredictably.

  • AI summaries are notes, not structured records

Clarify's AI-generated meeting summaries export as linked note content attached to activities, not as first-class structured objects. When migrating to Nutshell, these summaries land as Note attachments on the corresponding Activity record. The summary text is preserved, but Nutshell does not render AI-generated context as a separate metadata field. Customers relying on AI summaries for deal intelligence should review the migrated notes for completeness and accuracy.

  • No separate Lead object in Clarify

Clarify uses a single Contact object with a lifecycle stage property rather than a separate Lead object. Nutshell has both Lead and Contact objects. We map Clarify Contacts to Nutshell Contacts directly (Clarify does not distinguish pre-qualified vs. qualified in a separate object). If the customer needs to preserve a pre-sale qualification flag, we carry Clarify's lifecycle stage as a custom field on Nutshell Contact during migration.

  • Dirty data carries over without pre-migration cleansing

Clarify's autonomous field population frequently introduces incorrect company details (wrong revenue, outdated employee counts, mismatched industry classifications) that teams must manually override. Incomplete records with missing critical fields also persist. We run a data quality assessment during scoping and flag duplicate records, incomplete fields, and AI-introduced errors for the customer to cleanse before migration. Without pre-migration data cleansing, dirty data multiplies in the new system.

Migration approach

Six steps for a successful Clarify CRM to Nutshell data migration

  1. Discovery and credit audit

We audit Clarify across credit consumption, AI-enriched fields, custom field definitions, pipeline stage names, activity volume, and tag usage. We identify records with high AI credit consumption that may carry incorrect or stale enrichment. We pair this with Nutshell plan selection: Foundation ($16/user/mo annual) covers basic CRM; Pro ($42) unlocks multiple pipelines and advanced reporting; Power AI ($52) adds Nutshell's own AI features. The discovery output is a written migration scope including the AI-field preservation decision and Nutshell plan recommendation.

  2. Schema design and field mapping

We design the Nutshell destination schema before any data moves. This includes creating equivalent pipeline stages, mapping Clarify custom fields to Nutshell custom fields with type validation, configuring Nutshell pipeline views, and defining how Clarify's lifecycle stage values translate into Nutshell Contact fields or tags. Any Clarify field types that cannot map directly to Nutshell are flagged for the customer to resolve. Schema is validated in Nutshell's sandbox or trial environment before production migration begins.

  3. Data quality assessment and cleansing

We run a data quality assessment against Clarify's exported records. We identify duplicate Contacts (matched by email), incomplete records missing required fields (name, email), AI-enriched fields that may contain incorrect data, and inconsistent formatting (phone numbers, addresses). We present a cleansing report to the customer and perform deduplication and format normalization as a separate preprocessing step before migration. Cleansing prevents dirty data from multiplying in Nutshell.

  4. Staged migration in dependency order

We run production migration in record-dependency order: Companies (first, as they are referenced by Contacts), Contacts (with Company lookups resolved), Deals (with Contact and Company lookups resolved), Pipeline stages (configured before Deals import), Activities (Calls, Emails, Meetings, Tasks with Contact/Company lookups resolved), AI-generated summaries (as Note attachments on corresponding Activities), and Tags (applied to the records they label). Each phase emits a row-count reconciliation report before the next phase begins. We throttle exports to 15 req/s per Clarify's API limit with exponential backoff on 429 responses.

  5. Cutover, delta sync, and validation

We freeze Clarify writes during cutover, run a final delta migration of any records modified during the migration window, then enable Nutshell as the system of record. We validate record counts, spot-check 25-50 random records against the Clarify source, and confirm that all activities, notes, and tags transferred correctly. We deliver the automation and workflow inventory document to the customer's admin team for rebuild in Nutshell's workflow builder.

  6. Hypercare and handoff

We support a three-day hypercare window following cutover where we resolve any reconciliation issues raised by the customer's sales team. We do not rebuild Clarify Workflows or AI agents as Nutshell automations inside the migration scope; that work requires a separate engagement or internal admin task. We deliver the full migration log, the field mapping spreadsheet, and the automation inventory as part of the standard handoff package.

Strengths

  • Autonomous field population reduces CRM decay without requiring manual data entry workflows.
  • Credit-based usage pricing decouples cost from team headcount for predictable budgeting.
  • AI-powered deal context and stale-deal surfacing provide immediate sales intelligence out of the box.
  • Distraction-free interface with no unnecessary clicks appeals to founder-led sales teams.
  • Self-configuring pipeline setup requires no technical expertise or implementation consultant.

Weaknesses

  • Limited native integrations with third-party tools forces teams to rebuild existing stack connections.
  • AI accuracy issues require ongoing manual correction of incorrectly populated company details.
  • Advanced analytics and reporting lag behind established CRM platforms like Salesforce and HubSpot.
  • Complex custom workflows are difficult to maintain within Clarify's opinionated autonomous framework.
  • Still maturing product — fewer third-party resources, community answers, and certified partners than incumbents.

Strengths

  • Simple, intuitive interface with minimal learning curve for sales teams new to CRM
  • Per-seat pricing is transparent and predictable, with annual billing reducing monthly cost
  • Full data export tool available for all account data including backups
  • Open JSON-RPC API allows programmatic access to all core objects
  • Native multichannel engagement (email, SMS, WhatsApp) without third-party add-ons for communication

Weaknesses

  • Reporting and analytics are considered weak, requiring manual Excel exports for detailed analysis
  • No bulk API endpoint—migration requires paginated API reads that must be rate-limited carefully
  • JSON-RPC API is less common than REST, requiring custom integration code compared to standard REST CRMs
  • Add-on costs (Forms, Nutshell IQ, Email Marketing) are per-company charges that stack on top of per-seat pricing
  • Feature restrictions on entry-level plans mean teams often need mid-tier to get basic automation
