Why people choose empeon

The signal that keeps empeon on the shortlist. Sourced from G2, Capterra, and customer scoping calls.

Healthcare-specific HCM bundle reduces the need to coordinate separate payroll, HRIS, and time-tracking vendors across clinical operations.

Ease of use cited repeatedly in G2 reviews, with users calling the platform intuitive and quick to set up for HR teams with limited IT support.

Customer support rated highly, with reviewers specifically praising responsive representatives who resolve questions without friction.

Built-in Standard Reports and Live Reports give HR administrators visibility without requiring third-party BI tooling.

ESS Hub gives employees a self-service portal for PTO requests, profile updates, and benefits enrollment, reducing HR administrative load.

Session timeout behavior logs users out after short periods of inactivity, requiring repeated logins and disrupting daily workflows for power users.

Login reliability issues appear in reviews, with multiple users reporting being unexpectedly kicked out mid-task.

Tax calculation errors surface occasionally, forcing HR teams into manual corrections and creating compliance risk during payroll runs.

The API Connector carries a $2,000 one-time fee plus $200/month, making programmatic data extraction expensive for migration projects.

Limited public documentation and opaque pricing make it difficult for organizations to evaluate total cost of ownership before committing.

Platform scorecard

Strengths, weaknesses, and where empeon fits

Grades across six dimensions, plus a SWOT-style view of where the platform shines and where it falls short.

SWOT — strengths, weaknesses, and use-case fit

Strengths

All-in-one HCM bundle reduces vendor count for healthcare HR teams managing payroll, time, and benefits together.Strong customer support reputation with multiple G2 reviewers highlighting responsive, helpful representatives.Employee Self-Service Hub reduces HR administrative overhead by shifting routine tasks to employees.Live and Standard reporting built directly into the platform without requiring third-party BI integrations.Advanced Scheduling supports both Employee View and Daily View scheduling paradigms.

Weaknesses

API Connector requires a $2,000 one-time fee plus $200/month, making automated migration more costly.Session timeout settings cause frequent logouts, creating friction during migration scoping and data review sessions.Limited public documentation makes it difficult to assess API capabilities before purchasing the connector.Pricing is opaque and requires direct sales contact, complicating budget planning for migration projects.Tax calculation accuracy concerns appear in user reviews, raising compliance risk during payroll data exports.

Where it works

Mid-market healthcare organizations (51–1,000 employees) across Home Care, hospice, Skilled Nursing, Urgent Care, and Senior Living that need a single HCM bundle replacing separate payroll, HRIS, and time-tracking vendors.Healthcare HR teams with limited IT support who value intuitive navigation and a system that can be stood up without deep technical resources.Clinical environments requiring built-in Standard Reports and Live Reports without the overhead of third-party BI tooling, especially for multi-state compliance tracking.Organizations that prioritize responsive customer support during onboarding and ongoing payroll processing, where dedicated representatives resolve issues without escalation.Healthcare employers with high turnover or variable staffing who need ESS Hub to shift routine PTO requests, profile updates, and benefits enrollment to employees directly.

Where it struggles

Organizations evaluating total cost of ownership before committing, given opaque pricing that requires direct sales contact and limited public documentation for API or feature assessment.Companies requiring programmatic data extraction or automated migration, where the $2,000 one-time API Connector fee plus $200/month creates significant budget friction.HR power users who maintain active sessions for extended periods, as short session timeout settings cause repeated login interruptions and disrupt daily workflows.Multi-state or multi-jurisdiction payroll operations where tax calculation errors require manual correction and introduce compliance risk during payroll runs.Organizations seeking competitive alternatives (Paylocity, UKG Pro, ADP Workforce Now) that offer transparent pricing, stronger API documentation, or broader HCM feature sets at comparable cost.

What gets migrated

empeon object support

Object-by-object support for empeon migrations. Per-pair details surface during scoping.

Employees

Fully supported

Employee profiles are the primary record in Empeon Workforce. Standard fields include name, contact info, employment status, job title, department, hire date, and pay rate. We migrate all standard fields 1:1. Custom Fields (Input and Checkbox) are appended as key-value metadata on each employee record.

Custom Fields

Mapping required

Empeon supports two Custom Field types: free-text Input fields and yes/no Checkbox fields. We enumerate all active Custom Fields during scoping and map them to equivalent properties on the destination Employee object. Checkbox fields translate to Boolean or flag fields; Input fields become free-text strings.

Time and Attendance

Fully supported

Time entries, clock punches, and scheduling data (Employee View and Daily View) are stored within Empeon Workforce. We export attendance records by employee and date range. Advanced Scheduling assignments are treated as structured schedule-shift records.

Payroll History

Mapping required

Payroll registers, pay periods, gross/net pay amounts, and deduction line items are available via Live Report exports. We chunk exports by pay period to preserve historical context. Tax withholding amounts and deduction codes may require mapping to destination field names.

Direct Deposit

Mapping required

Bank account routing numbers and account numbers are stored per employee for direct deposit. We flag these as sensitive fields, encrypt them in transit during migration, and suppress them from any non-encrypted reporting outputs.

Benefit Enrollments

Mapping required

Benefit plans, carrier assignments, coverage tiers, and enrollment dates are stored per employee. We export enrollment records as structured objects. Plan names and carrier codes often differ between source and destination systems and require explicit mapping.

Accrual Balances

Fully supported

PTO, sick leave, and other accrual balances are tracked per employee with effective-dated change history. We preserve current balance, accrual rate, and carryover rules. Historical balance snapshots are included where available via accrual reports.

Documents

Mapping required

Documents attached to employee profiles (offer letters, performance reviews, certifications) may be stored in Empeon's document management system. We export file metadata and binary content where accessible via the ESS Hub or admin interface. File type and naming conventions vary across organizations.

Standard Reports

Mapping required

Standard Reports are tied to specific features and can be configured for date ranges. We export report definitions and result sets. Row-level data is mapped to destination equivalents; report formatting and column layouts are not preserved.

Live Reports

Mapping required

Live Reports support grouping, static columns, and real-time export. We extract the data rows as structured output. Grouping hierarchy and custom column ordering are not transferred; only the underlying row data is migrated.

Company Settings

Mapping required

Organization-level configuration (departments, cost centers, job titles, pay grades, approval workflows) is stored in the Company tab. We export the current configuration state. Settings that reference employee IDs require re-linking post-migration.

ESS Hub Access

Mapping required

Employee Self-Service Hub access is tied to the email address stored in the employee profile. If email addresses change during migration, employees must re-register their ESS accounts. We document this dependency in the pre-migration scope report.
