Overview

What this migration involves

Moving from Genoo to Nutshell is a migration from a marketing-automation-first tool with a thin CRM layer to a sales-CRM-first platform with marketing add-ons. Genoo has no publicly documented bulk export API, which means every migration begins with manual scoped exports from the platform UI and relies on email address matching to reconstruct Lead-to-Campaign and Contact-to-Account relationships. We do not migrate landing page blobs, HTML email templates, or calculated lead scores because Genoo exposes these as platform-rendered assets rather than structured data. We do not migrate Zapier workflows, drip sequences, or marketing automation rules; we deliver a written inventory of every active campaign and drip program for the customer to rebuild in Nutshell Campaigns or a dedicated marketing tool. Nutshell's per-user pricing model ($13-$79/user/month) is more predictable than Genoo's per-feature model ($199+/feature/month) for teams that grow beyond a single use case.

Why teams make this switch

Two sides of the same decision

Leaving

Genoo logo

Genoo

What's pushing teams away

  • The platform has remained very small — estimated fewer than 10 employees and limited development investment — raising concerns about long-term product viability and whether it will stay supported.
  • Pricing at $199 per feature per month plus active lead fees compounds quickly for growing teams, making Genoo significantly more expensive than HubSpot's starter tier once the feature set expands.
  • No documented public API for bulk data export means customers have no reliable machine-readable way to extract their historical lead data, contact history, and campaign performance before switching.
  • The tool lacks modern capabilities that small firms increasingly expect: advanced automation branches, multi-touch attribution, native A/B testing depth, and robust analytics beyond basic open/click rates.
  • Integration options are limited to Zapier for non-Salesforce CRMs, which adds cost and latency for teams needing real-time or event-driven CRM updates.

Choosing

Nutshell logo

Nutshell

What's pulling them in

  • Lowest cost entry point among mid-market CRMs—Foundation plan starts at $13/user/month, making it accessible for teams validating CRM fit before committing.
  • Integrated sales automation and email sequencing on Pro plans without requiring a separate email marketing platform, per verified Capterra reviews.
  • Consistently praised for intuitive interface and fast onboarding, with case studies reporting 100% team adoption rates within initial deployment periods.
  • Strong customer support responsiveness cited across G2 reviews, with dedicated support tiers available on Enterprise plans.
  • Native integrations with WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and Slack reduce reliance on third-party middleware for common communication channels.

Object mapping

How Genoo objects map to Nutshell

Each row shows how a Genoo object lands in Nutshell, including any object-level transformations, lookup resolution, or schema-design dependencies.

Typical mapping — final map is confirmed during the sample migration step.

Genoo

Lead

maps to

Nutshell

Contact

1:1
Fully supported

Genoo Leads map to Nutshell Contacts. We use email address as the dedupe key during import. Genoo Lead fields (first_name, last_name, email, phone, company, website, source) map to standard Nutshell Contact fields. Any custom Lead properties in Genoo map to Nutshell custom Contact fields that we pre-create in the destination account before import.

Genoo

Contact

maps to

Nutshell

Contact

1:1
Fully supported

Genoo Contacts from landing page captures and imported lists map to Nutshell Contacts using email as the dedupe key. Name, email, phone, and custom properties migrate directly. Where the destination Nutshell account uses a unified Contact model (rather than separate Lead and Contact objects), all Genoo records land in the Contact object with their original record type preserved in a custom field for reporting.

Genoo

Account/Company

maps to

Nutshell

Account

1:1
Fully supported

Genoo Account records link to Leads and Contacts in Genoo and map to Nutshell Accounts. Account name, website, industry, and phone migrate directly. The Account object in Nutshell must be created before Contact import so that the Account lookup is satisfied at the moment of Contact insert. We resolve the Account-Contact relationship by matching the email domain extracted from the Contact's email address against the Account's website domain.

Genoo

Campaign

maps to

Nutshell

Campaign

1:1
Fully supported

Genoo Campaigns (drip programs and email nurture sequences) map to Nutshell Campaigns. Campaign name, status, start_date, and end_date migrate directly. Campaign membership (which Leads entered which Campaigns) migrates to Nutshell Campaign Members linked by email address match against the imported Contact records. Genoo's drip program steps do not migrate as automation; we document each Campaign's step structure and recommended Nutshell automation equivalent.

Genoo

Event/Webinar Registration

maps to

Nutshell

Activity

1:1
Fully supported

Event registrations in Genoo are stored as Activity-type records linked to Leads. We import registration data (event name, registration date, status) as Nutshell Activities attached to the corresponding Contact record. Post-event attendance and session data similarly migrate as Activity records with a custom event_type field. We cannot migrate the event platform's native attendance records (Zoom, GoToWebinar, etc.) if those were not also stored in Genoo.

Genoo

Landing Page / Microsite

maps to

Nutshell

Not migrated

lossy
Fully supported

Genoo landing pages and microsites are stored as HTML and template blobs with no structured field extraction documented. We extract the page URL and form field list as a manifest of pages requiring rebuild in the destination CMS or marketing tool. Nutshell provides embeddable web forms but does not include a landing page builder; teams typically rebuild Genoo pages in a separate landing page tool or in Nutshell's form embed feature. We deliver a written page inventory with the URL, form fields, and any associated thank-you page URLs.

Genoo

Email Template

maps to

Nutshell

Not migrated

lossy
Fully supported

Genoo email templates are HTML-based with platform-specific merge tags and styling. Modern email builders use drag-and-drop blocks that do not map cleanly to raw HTML templates, and Genoo does not expose a structured template export. We extract the template subject line and a plain-text body as a reference document for the customer's admin to recreate in Nutshell Campaigns or a dedicated email marketing tool. HTML template bodies are preserved as text notes in the template manifest but not imported as active templates.

Genoo

Lead Scoring Record

maps to

Nutshell

Not migrated

lossy
Fully supported

Genoo lead scores are calculated values generated by the platform's behavioral scoring engine. These scores are displayed in the Genoo UI but are not included in any export format, and the scoring rule weights and demographic factors cannot be extracted. We do not migrate lead scores. During discovery we document the scoring configuration (demographic weights, behavioral thresholds, score tiers) and advise the customer to replicate the model using Nutshell's built-in lead scoring or a third-party scoring add-on. We preserve any numerical score stored as a custom field on the Lead record if that data appears in the export.

Genoo

Content Library Asset

maps to

Nutshell

Not migrated

lossy
Fully supported

The Genoo content library stores images, PDFs, and campaign files. Genoo provides no bulk file download endpoint or API for assets. We do not migrate binary assets automatically. We generate a manifest of all referenced content library URLs during discovery and instruct the customer to download files manually from the Genoo UI or via a scripted browser session before the account is closed. Assets referenced in email templates that are not pre-downloaded will result in broken images in any downstream email tool.

Pair-specific challenges

  • Genoo exports are manual, UI-scoped, and row-limited

Genoo provides no publicly documented bulk API. All data extraction begins with the platform's manual export UI, which typically imposes row limits per export and may not bundle all associated objects in a single file. Leads, Campaign members, and Form submission data must be exported as separate scoped files. We reconcile relationships across these files using email address as the join key. If the customer's account has many records, multiple export batches are required and must be deduplicated before import. We advise customers to coordinate the export batches before the migration window to avoid unexpected Genoo feature activation costs.

  • Genoo per-feature pricing inflates during migration scoping

Genoo charges $199 per feature per month. Customers often activate additional Genoo features temporarily to extract data for migration or to run parallel campaigns during a transition period, which immediately increases the monthly invoice. We advise customers to scope all needed features in a single upfront session before the migration window opens and to pause or downgrade to a minimal feature set immediately after the cutover to avoid compounding invoices from features no longer in active use.

  • Lead-to-Campaign relationships require reconstruction from separate exports

Genoo does not export Campaign membership as a single joined dataset. Campaign membership (which Lead entered which Campaign) must be reconstructed by joining the Campaign export with the Campaign members export and then matching email addresses against the Leads export. We perform this join during the transformation phase and generate a Campaign Members import file for Nutshell. If a Lead email address appears in multiple Campaigns, all memberships are preserved as separate Campaign Member records in Nutshell. Any Lead with no matching Contact record in Nutshell after the main import is held in a reconciliation queue.

  • Lead scores and behavioral scoring rules cannot be exported from Genoo

Genoo's lead scoring engine calculates scores based on demographic weights and behavioral thresholds defined within the platform. These calculated scores are visible in the UI but are not included in any export format, and the underlying scoring rule configuration (points per page visit, per email open, per form submission, etc.) cannot be extracted programmatically. We do not migrate lead scores. We document the scoring configuration during discovery and advise the customer to replicate the model in Nutshell using a third-party scoring tool or Nutshell's native lead scoring features. Any static numeric score stored as a custom field on the Lead record will migrate as a plain custom field value.

  • Content library assets require manual pre-download before account closure

The Genoo content library stores images, PDFs, and files associated with campaigns and landing pages. Genoo does not expose a bulk file download API. We do not migrate binary assets automatically. We generate a manifest of all referenced content library URLs during discovery and instruct the customer to download files manually from the Genoo UI before the account is closed. If assets are referenced in email templates and are not pre-downloaded, the imported Nutshell email sends will display broken image placeholders. We recommend completing asset downloads at the start of the migration engagement to allow time for any large file collections.

Migration approach

Six steps for a successful Genoo to Nutshell data migration

  1. Discovery and export coordination

We audit the Genoo account across all active features (lead capture, drip campaigns, event marketing, landing pages, content library), custom properties, and record volumes. We coordinate with the customer to run scoped manual exports from Genoo's UI: Leads, Campaign members, Form data, and Account records as separate CSV batches. We document the Campaign step structure (email order, delays, triggers) as a written automation inventory for rebuild in Nutshell. We flag any Genoo feature that will need to be activated solely for migration extraction purposes so the customer can minimize the billing impact.

  2. Relationship reconstruction and transformation

We reconstruct Lead-to-Campaign membership by joining the Campaign members export against the Leads export using email address as the join key. We resolve Contact-to-Account relationships by matching email domain against Account website. We split the unified Genoo Lead/Contact export into Nutshell's Contact model, apply any custom field mappings, and generate a Contact import file ready for Nutshell's data import tool. We create a custom campaign_type field on Nutshell Campaigns to distinguish drip programs from event campaigns.

  3. Schema pre-creation in Nutshell

Before any data import, we pre-create all custom fields in Nutshell that correspond to Genoo custom properties not present in Nutshell's standard Contact and Account field set. We configure the Nutshell pipeline with stages that most closely match the customer's existing Genoo sales process, if any is documented. We set up Nutshell Campaigns with the names and statuses from Genoo. We validate the destination schema in Nutshell before production import begins.

  4. Account and Contact import with deduplication

We run Account import first (from Genoo Company records), then Contact import with Account lookup resolution and email-based deduplication. Any Contact without a matching Account is created with the company name stored on the Contact record for manual Account assignment post-import. We run a reconciliation report comparing the number of Genoo Leads exported against the number of Nutshell Contacts imported and flag any gaps for the customer's review before proceeding to Campaign import.

  5. Campaign and Campaign Member migration

We import Nutshell Campaigns with name, status, and date fields. We then import Campaign Members by matching email addresses against the imported Nutshell Contacts and linking each member to the corresponding Campaign record. Campaign membership with no matching Contact in Nutshell is held in a deferred queue; the customer decides whether to create placeholder Contacts for these members or exclude them from the migration. We deliver a Campaign membership count report for each Campaign to confirm all member links were resolved.

  6. Activity import and cutover handoff

Event registration and attendance data from Genoo migrates as Nutshell Activities linked to the corresponding Contact records. We deliver the automation inventory document listing every Genoo drip program, its step structure, and a recommended Nutshell Campaigns equivalent. We deliver the landing page manifest and the email template subject-and-body reference document. We do not migrate Zapier workflows, drip sequences, or marketing automation rules. We freeze Genoo writes during cutover, run a final delta migration of any records modified during the migration window, and hand off to the customer with a reconciliation report and a one-week hypercare window for data issues.

Platform deep dives

Context on both ends of the pair

Genoo logo

Genoo

Source

Strengths

  • Simple per-feature pricing model at $199/month suits very small teams with a narrow use case.
  • Built-in landing page and microsite builder reduces tool count for solo and small-stack marketing teams.
  • Lead scoring with demographic and behavioral weights is accessible without consultant configuration.
  • Salesforce CRM sync via native integration handles basic Lead/Contact/Opportunity synchronization.
  • Content library provides centralized storage for campaign images, PDFs, and documents.

Weaknesses

  • Platform has remained extremely small — fewer than 10 employees — raising questions about long-term support and development investment.
  • No publicly documented API for bulk data export makes programmatic migration difficult and customer-dependent on manual exports.
  • Pricing model ($199 per feature) scales poorly for growing teams needing multiple automation capabilities.
  • No native custom objects or advanced data model means complex business rules must be handled outside Genoo.
  • Limited integrations — Zapier-only for non-Salesforce CRMs — increases cost and complexity for teams on other platforms.

Nutshell

Destination

Strengths

  • Simple, intuitive interface with minimal learning curve for sales teams new to CRM
  • Per-seat pricing is transparent and predictable, with annual billing reducing monthly cost
  • Full data export tool available for all account data including backups
  • Open JSON-RPC API allows programmatic access to all core objects
  • Native multichannel engagement (email, SMS, WhatsApp) without third-party add-ons for communication

Weaknesses

  • Reporting and analytics are considered weak, requiring manual Excel exports for detailed analysis
  • No bulk API endpoint—migration requires paginated API reads that must be rate-limited carefully
  • JSON-RPC API is less common than REST, requiring custom integration code compared to standard REST CRMs
  • Add-on costs (Forms, Nutshell IQ, Email Marketing) are per-company charges that stack on top of per-seat pricing
  • Feature restrictions on entry-level plans mean teams often need mid-tier to get basic automation

Most migrations land between two and three weeks for accounts under 5,000 Leads and 50 Campaigns with no complex relationship reconstruction. Migrations requiring multiple export batches due to Genoo's UI row limits, large event registration histories, or campaign-to-member relationship reconciliation with deferred record handling move to five to eight weeks. The primary timeline driver is how quickly the customer can complete the manual Genoo export batches; we cannot begin transformation until all export files are available.
