Overview

What this migration involves

Claritysoft and Nutshell both target SMB sales teams but differ in data model depth and pricing tier structure. Claritysoft separates Accounts, Contacts, Leads, and Opportunities with role-based Profile Layouts and a three-tier per-user model starting at $49; Nutshell unifies People (contacts) and Companies (accounts) under a simpler per-user model starting at $13 with no storage limits. The migration is a data consolidation from a multi-module schema into a flatter structure: Claritysoft's separate Accounts and Contacts map to Nutshell's Companies and People, Opportunities map to Nutshell's Deals, and Activities map to Nutshell's Activity timeline. Custom Modules and Custom Fields require field-by-field mapping since Claritysoft's calculated-field logic has no direct Nutshell equivalent. Workflows and date-trigger automations do not migrate as code; we deliver a written inventory for the customer's admin to rebuild post-migration.

Why teams make this switch

Two sides of the same decision

What's pushing teams away

  • Reporting capabilities lag behind enterprise CRMs — users who need multi-dimensional analytics or complex custom reports find themselves spending hours building outputs that other platforms generate automatically.
  • Some workflows become difficult to configure as business complexity grows — users with advanced automation needs report hitting ceilings that require expensive upgrades or workarounds.
  • The platform lacks the ecosystem breadth of HubSpot or Salesforce — users needing deep native integrations with niche tools find themselves relying on manual workarounds or third-party middleware.

Choosing

Nutshell logo

Nutshell

What's pulling them in

  • Lowest cost entry point among mid-market CRMs—Foundation plan starts at $13/user/month, making it accessible for teams validating CRM fit before committing.
  • Integrated sales automation and email sequencing on Pro plans without requiring a separate email marketing platform, per verified Capterra reviews.
  • Consistently praised for intuitive interface and fast onboarding, with case studies reporting 100% team adoption rates within initial deployment periods.
  • Strong customer support responsiveness cited across G2 reviews, with dedicated support tiers available on Enterprise plans.
  • Native integrations with WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and Slack reduce reliance on third-party middleware for common communication channels.

Object mapping

How Claritysoft objects map to Nutshell

Each row shows how a Claritysoft object lands in Nutshell, including any object-level transformations, lookup resolution, or schema-design dependencies.

Typical mapping — final map is confirmed during the sample migration step.

Claritysoft

Contact

maps to

Nutshell

Person

1:1
Fully supported

Claritysoft Contacts map directly to Nutshell People. Standard fields (name, email, phone, address, company association) transfer directly. The Claritysoft contact-to-account link resolves to the Nutshell Company lookup. We flag any Contacts without an associated Account since Nutshell People can exist without a Company link, but the customer should decide whether to require company association post-migration.

Claritysoft

Account

maps to

Nutshell

Company

1:1
Fully supported

Claritysoft Accounts map to Nutshell Companies 1:1. Company name, website, address, industry, and revenue fields transfer directly. Nutshell Companies do not have a separate type field; we map Claritysoft's Account Type to a Nutshell custom field or leave blank if the customer prefers a flat structure.

Claritysoft

Lead

maps to

Nutshell

Lead

1:1
Fully supported

Claritysoft Leads transfer to Nutshell Leads with lifecycle stage preserved. Claritysoft's New, Contacted, Qualified stages map to Nutshell's Lead status values, with the original stage stored in a custom field for audit. Any lead scoring values transfer as a numeric custom field.

Claritysoft

Opportunity

maps to

Nutshell

Deal

1:1
Fully supported

Claritysoft Opportunities map to Nutshell Deals. Deal amount, stage, probability, expected close date, and owner transfer directly. Claritysoft pipeline stage names map to Nutshell pipeline stage names; if the names differ significantly, we document the mapping and the customer configures the pipeline stages in Nutshell before migration begins.

Claritysoft

Activity (Call, Meeting, Task)

maps to

Nutshell

Activity (Call, Meeting, Task)

1:1
Fully supported

Claritysoft Activities (Calls, Meetings, Tasks) map to Nutshell's activity timeline entries. Timestamps, owners, linked record associations, and disposition data transfer directly. Note that Nutshell's activity model is simpler than Claritysoft's; detailed call disposition codes without a Nutshell equivalent become custom fields.

Claritysoft

Document and Attachment

maps to

Nutshell

Attachment

1:1
Fully supported

Documents attached to Claritysoft records (Contacts, Accounts, Opportunities) are extracted and re-attached to the corresponding Nutshell People, Companies, or Deal records. Attachment storage conventions differ between platforms; we flag the count and total size of attachments during discovery and warn if the total exceeds typical Nutshell attachment limits.

Claritysoft

Custom Field

maps to

Nutshell

Custom Field

1:1
Fully supported

Claritysoft Custom Fields on Contacts, Accounts, Leads, and Opportunities map to Nutshell customFields. Nutshell stores custom fields in a dedicated customFields dictionary per record, so we reformat the field schema during transform. Calculated Custom Fields from Claritysoft Accelerator or Enterprise have no Nutshell equivalent; we migrate the calculated values as static data and document the calculated-field logic for manual rebuild.

Claritysoft

Custom Module

maps to

Nutshell

Custom Field or External Object

1:1
Fully supported

Claritysoft Custom Modules (available on Accelerator and Enterprise tiers) have no direct Nutshell equivalent. We migrate the module data as a set of custom fields on the nearest standard object (typically People or Companies) or as a separate entity documented for the customer to review. If the Custom Module has lookup relationships to standard objects, we map those to Nutshell custom field lookups where the data model supports it.

Claritysoft

Workflow

maps to

Nutshell

Workflow (documented, not migrated)

lossy
Fully supported

Claritysoft Workflows do not migrate as automation code. We export the full workflow definition including triggers, conditions, actions, and date-based logic during discovery. Nutshell's Workflow Management feature (available on Sales Growth and above) handles task automation and lead routing differently; we deliver a written workflow inventory with recommended Nutshell equivalents and the customer rebuilds manually post-migration.

Pair-specific challenges

  • Claritysoft API access requires Accelerator or Enterprise tier

The Claritysoft REST API is only available on the Accelerator ($59/user/month) and Enterprise ($69/user/month) tiers. Professional-plan customers cannot generate API keys at all, which means any migration from a Professional account must use a manual export step (CSV download or FlitStack AI-assisted browser-based extraction) rather than an automated API pull. We confirm the source plan tier during scoping before proposing an API-based migration path. If the customer is on Professional, we scope the manual export overhead into the project timeline and pricing.

  • Custom Modules and calculated fields have no direct Nutshell equivalent

Claritysoft's Accelerator and Enterprise tiers support Custom Modules and Calculated Custom Fields that store structured data and computed values. Nutshell supports custom fields on People, Companies, and Leads via the customFields dictionary but does not have a Custom Modules concept. We migrate Custom Module data as custom fields on the nearest standard object, but the relational structure of a separate module does not map cleanly. We document the module schema during discovery so the customer can decide how to restructure the data in Nutshell.

  • Nutshell API is Enterprise-only and uses JSON-RPC with rev-based concurrency

Nutshell's API is available only on the Enterprise tier ($79/user/month) and uses JSON-RPC 2.0 rather than REST. Every entity response includes a rev identifier that must be passed back on edit calls; the API rejects edits if the record has changed server-side since the cached rev was issued. We handle rev caching in our ingestion pipeline and use exponential backoff with retry on 409 Conflict responses. Teams without Enterprise access must use Nutshell's Import2 migration tool for CSV-based imports, which constrains the migration to supported field types and flat record structures.

  • Workflow date triggers are Enterprise-only on Claritysoft and do not migrate

Date-based workflow triggers (e.g., '7 days after Created Date, send email') are an Enterprise-tier feature on Claritysoft. When migrating from Enterprise, the date-trigger logic requires manual reconfiguration in Nutshell because Nutshell's workflow automation uses different semantics (task automation, lead routing, and activity reminders rather than time-based email triggers). We document every active date-trigger workflow during discovery and deliver a written handoff so the customer's admin can rebuild the logic in Nutshell's workflow builder.

  • Source data quality determines migration cleanliness

Claritysoft's own implementation guidance lists 'Importing Bad Data' as a top CRM mistake to avoid, citing duplicates, missing required fields, and inconsistent date formats as common blockers. We run a data profiling pass before migration, flagging duplicate email addresses, Contacts without required fields, and malformed date formats. Source data cleanup happens before migration begins, and the customer approves the cleaned dataset before we commit to import. Skipping this step results in failed imports and post-migration data quality issues in Nutshell.

Migration approach

Six steps for a successful Claritysoft to Nutshell data migration

  1. Discovery and plan verification

We audit the source Claritysoft account across plan tier (Professional/Accelerator/Enterprise), record counts per object (Contacts, Accounts, Leads, Opportunities, Activities), Custom Module definitions, Custom Field schemas, active Workflow definitions, and any API key scope restrictions. We confirm the plan tier because Professional accounts lack API access and require manual extraction. The discovery output is a written migration scope, a data volume summary, and a confirmed migration path (API-based or manual-export-assisted).

  2. Data profiling and source cleanup

We run a data profiling pass on the extracted Claritysoft data: duplicate detection on email and company name, required-field completeness checks (Contacts without email, Accounts without name), date format normalization, and orphaned record identification. We deliver a data quality report to the customer and scope a cleanup sprint before migration begins. Source data quality is the single most important predictor of post-migration cleanliness in Nutshell.

  3. Nutshell pipeline and field configuration

Before any data import, we configure the Nutshell destination: pipeline stage names mapped from Claritysoft's pipeline stages, custom fields created to receive Claritysoft custom field data, and any required picklist values populated. If Nutshell's default pipeline structure differs from Claritysoft's, we map each Claritysoft stage to the closest Nutshell equivalent. This step requires the customer to confirm the pipeline configuration before we proceed to data load.

  4. Record import in dependency order

We import records into Nutshell in dependency order: Companies (from Claritysoft Accounts) first, then People (from Claritysoft Contacts with Company lookup resolved), then Leads, then Deals (with owner and stage resolved), then Activities (Tasks, Calls, Meetings), and finally custom field data. Each phase emits a row-count reconciliation report. We use the Nutshell API (Enterprise tier) or Import2 CSV import (non-Enterprise) depending on the source plan tier. Attachments are imported last after the parent record links are established.

  5. Workflow inventory and admin handoff

We deliver a written inventory of every active Claritysoft Workflow with its trigger conditions, actions, and date-based logic, mapped to a recommended Nutshell Workflow Management equivalent. The customer's admin rebuilds the automation logic in Nutshell post-migration using this document. We do not migrate Workflows as code because Claritysoft and Nutshell use fundamentally different automation models. Custom Module restructuring recommendations are delivered as a separate schema-change document for the customer to implement.

Platform deep dives

Context on both ends of the pair

Source

Strengths

  • Per-user pricing with no per-feature gates on core CRM functions in the base Professional tier.
  • Free phone support with customer advocates who proactively check in throughout the year.
  • Quick Start implementation program that gets most SMBs operational in 1–2 days with guided data import.
  • Workflow Automation and Custom Modules without requiring external consultants or expensive professional services engagements.
  • Email and calendar integration with Outlook, Gmail, and Google Calendar out of the box.

Weaknesses

  • Reporting and analytics lag behind enterprise CRM platforms, requiring more manual effort for complex sales insights.
  • No native AI or advanced automation capabilities that competitors increasingly bundle at similar price points.
  • Limited ecosystem of third-party integrations compared to HubSpot or Salesforce AppExchange.
  • Document and attachment handling is functional but not as robust as dedicated document management systems.
  • Mobile app capabilities are basic compared to native mobile-first CRM alternatives.

Strengths

  • Simple, intuitive interface with minimal learning curve for sales teams new to CRM
  • Per-seat pricing is transparent and predictable, with annual billing reducing monthly cost
  • Full data export tool available for all account data including backups
  • Open JSON-RPC API allows programmatic access to all core objects
  • Native multichannel engagement (email, SMS, WhatsApp) without third-party add-ons for communication

Weaknesses

  • Reporting and analytics are considered weak, requiring manual Excel exports for detailed analysis
  • No bulk API endpoint—migration requires paginated API reads that must be rate-limited carefully
  • JSON-RPC API is less common than REST, requiring custom integration code compared to standard REST CRMs
  • Add-on costs (Forms, Nutshell IQ, Email Marketing) are per-company charges that stack on top of per-seat pricing
  • Feature restrictions on entry-level plans mean teams often need mid-tier to get basic automation

Most migrations land between two and four weeks for accounts under 15,000 Contacts and 3,000 Deals with API access available on the source Claritysoft account. Migrations from a Professional-tier Claritysoft account (requiring manual export) or those with multiple Custom Modules, large activity histories, or complex custom field schemas move to five to eight weeks because of the manual extraction overhead and field-by-field mapping work.
