Overview
Moving from Bigin by Zoho CRM to Mailchimp is a structural migration from a pipeline-centric CRM into an email-marketing platform. Bigin organizes data around Contacts, Companies, Deals, Pipelines, Tasks, Events, Calls, and Notes. Mailchimp uses an Audience-based model with Subscribers, Tags, Merge Fields, Campaigns, and Customer Journeys. There is no Deal or Pipeline equivalent in Mailchimp; those objects do not migrate. We extract Bigin Contacts, map standard fields (name, email, phone, address) to Mailchimp subscriber fields, and resolve custom fields to Mailchimp Merge Fields using the uppercase merge tag convention. Company records, Deal associations, and engagement history migrate as Tags or merge-field values where semantically appropriate. Tasks, Events, Calls, Notes, Attachments, and Pipelines have no Mailchimp equivalent and are excluded from the standard migration scope with a written inventory provided for manual records management.
Every standard and custom field arrives verified.
AI proposes the map; you confirm before any record moves.
Parent–child, lookups, and ownership stay linked.
Calls, emails, meetings — with original timestamps.
Documents, uploads, and inline notes move with the record.

Object mapping
Each row shows how a Bigin by Zoho CRM object lands in Mailchimp, including any object-level transformations, lookup resolution, or schema-design dependencies.
Typical mapping — final map is confirmed during the sample migration step.

Contact
Mailchimp
Audience Subscriber
1:1Bigin Contacts map directly to Mailchimp Audience members. Email address is the dedupe key. Standard fields (First Name, Last Name, Phone, Address fields) map to Mailchimp merge fields FNAME, LNAME, PHONE, and address group fields. We validate email format and flag invalid or missing email addresses before import. Subscribers without a valid email address are held in a reconciliation queue and excluded from the standard migration scope.

Company (Accounts)
Mailchimp
Audience Tag or Merge Field
1:manyBigin Company records do not have a direct Mailchimp equivalent. We resolve Company-to-Contact linkages and create Mailchimp Tags (one per unique Company name) applied to all Contacts belonging to that Company. If the customer uses Company name for segmentation in campaigns, we alternatively map it to a COMPANY merge field. The customer chooses tag strategy versus merge field during scoping. Company address and industry data do not transfer unless the customer configures additional merge fields in Mailchimp before migration.
Bigin by Zoho CRM
Deal
Mailchimp
Not Migrated
lossyBigin Deals have no Mailchimp equivalent. Mailchimp is an email marketing platform, not a CRM, and does not support pipeline, stage, amount, probability, or close date objects. We exclude Deals from the standard migration scope and deliver a written inventory of all Deals with their stage, amount, owner, and associated Contacts so the customer's admin can export to a spreadsheet or connect to a CRM addon if needed.
Bigin by Zoho CRM
Pipeline
Mailchimp
Not Migrated
lossyBigin Pipelines are top-level containers for Deals and Stages. Mailchimp has no pipeline concept. We exclude Pipelines from migration scope. If the customer uses Pipeline names or Stages for segmentation in Bigin, we capture these as Tag categories in Mailchimp during scoping, but the Pipeline structure itself is not reproducible in Mailchimp's Audience model.
Bigin by Zoho CRM
Product
Mailchimp
Not Migrated
lossyBigin Products (catalog items used on Deals) do not map to any Mailchimp object. Mailchimp does not maintain a product catalog. If Products are used for contact segmentation (e.g., 'owns Product X'), we create Tags from Product names and apply them to Contacts associated with Deals containing that Product. The customer confirms this approach during scoping.
Bigin by Zoho CRM
Task
Mailchimp
Not Migrated
lossyBigin Tasks are standalone to-do items linked to Contacts, Companies, or Deals with due dates, status, and owners. Mailchimp has no task management feature. Tasks are excluded from migration scope. We deliver a task inventory with owner assignments and due dates for the customer's admin to recreate outside Mailchimp or transfer to a project management tool.
Bigin by Zoho CRM
Event
Mailchimp
Not Migrated
lossyBigin Events are calendar records with start/end times, recurrence data, and attendees linked to CRM records. Mailchimp does not support calendar or event management. Events are excluded from migration scope. Recurring event patterns in Bigin's Bulk Read export are flattened and not preserved as recurrence rules in Mailchimp.
Bigin by Zoho CRM
Call
Mailchimp
Not Migrated
lossyBigin Call logs store duration, subject, outcome, and recording URL linked to Contacts, Companies, or Deals. Mailchimp has no call logging feature. Call records are excluded from migration scope. If the customer uses call outcome for email segmentation, we create Tags from call outcome values and apply them to the associated Contact record.
Bigin by Zoho CRM
Note
Mailchimp
Not Migrated
lossyBigin Notes are free-text annotations attached to any record via standard API (not Bulk Read). Mailchimp has no note or annotation feature. Notes are excluded from the standard migration scope. We deliver a written inventory of Notes by Contact with the note body and creation timestamp for the customer's admin to export to a document store or append to a CRM migration in a future engagement.
Bigin by Zoho CRM
Custom Field
Mailchimp
Merge Field
1:1Bigin custom fields created via the Developer Console with <namespace>__<label> naming map to Mailchimp Merge Fields. We validate the merge field data type (text, number, date, dropdown) and create the corresponding Mailchimp merge field before Contact import. Mailchimp merge fields use uppercase tag names (e.g., INDUSTRY, LEAD_SOURCE). Multi-select custom fields in Bigin become comma-separated text in Mailchimp merge fields unless the customer configures a Tag group for that field during scoping.

E-commerce data requires active store connection
Pair-specific challenges
Migration approach
Discovery and Mailchimp audience configuration
We audit the source Bigin account across plan tier (Free/Express/Premier), Contact and Company count, custom field definitions (namespace, label, data type), and any active Bigin-to-Mailchimp integration setup. We pair this with Mailchimp audience configuration: creating or selecting the target Audience, defining merge fields matching Bigin's custom fields, designing the tag taxonomy for Company, Deal stage, and engagement data, and confirming the customer's Mailchimp plan tier. The discovery output is a written migration scope with object mapping, merge field list, and tag taxonomy.
Bigin API access and credit budgeting
We establish OAuth 2.0 API access to the Bigin account and scope the credit consumption for the planned export. Standard Contact and Company exports consume 1-3 credits per record via bulk read. If Note data is in scope, we budget for individual record API calls at higher credit cost. We run a test export of 50-100 records to validate field mapping, email deliverability, and credit burn rate before committing to the full export.
Tag taxonomy and merge field finalization
We finalize the tag taxonomy and merge field configuration in Mailchimp based on the customer's chosen strategy from scoping. Company names become Tags applied per Contact. Deal stage or Pipeline names become Tags if used for segmentation. Custom fields become Merge Fields created in Mailchimp before subscriber import. We validate that merge field names conform to Mailchimp's uppercase tag syntax (max 10 characters for standard fields, 30 for custom).
Contact export, transformation, and Mailchimp import
We export Bigin Contacts via bulk read in CSV format, validate email addresses and required fields, apply transformations (date format normalization, multi-select concatenation, phone number formatting), and resolve Company associations for tag application. The transformed CSV is imported into Mailchimp via the Mailchimp API with batch processing. Tags are applied after subscriber import using the Mailchimp Tags API. Each batch emits a row-count reconciliation report.
Validation and written inventory delivery
We validate the migrated audience in Mailchimp by spot-checking 25-50 random subscribers against the Bigin source (name, email, phone, merge field values, tag presence). We generate a written inventory of excluded objects: Deals, Pipelines, Tasks, Events, Calls, Notes, Attachments, and Products. Each inventory item includes the record count, field list, and owner assignment so the customer's admin can recreate manually or transfer to another system.
Cutover and handoff
We freeze Bigin writes during cutover if the customer plans to discontinue Bigin. If the Bigin-to-Mailchimp integration is still active, we coordinate with the customer's admin to disable or reconfigure the integration to prevent duplicate contact creation. We deliver the final migration report including record counts migrated, excluded, and held in reconciliation. We do not rebuild Bigin workflows or automations in Mailchimp Customer Journeys; we deliver a written inventory of active Bigin workflows as a separate handoff document for the customer's marketing admin to rebuild in Mailchimp.
