Migrate your Synergy data
Cloud-based AEC business and project management platform combining project tracking, CRM, and financial tools for architecture, engineering, and construction firms.

Why people choose Synergy
The signal that keeps Synergy on the shortlist. Sourced from G2, Capterra, and customer scoping calls.
AEC firms choose Total Synergy because it combines project management with integrated financials and CRM in one platform, reducing the need to switch between disconnected tools for billing and client tracking.
The workflow automation engine lets architecture and engineering teams automate approval chains, resource assignments, and status transitions without manual intervention across project lifecycles.
Workflows, custom fields, and naming rules are highly configurable, allowing firms to model complex project hierarchies and data structures specific to civil engineering and construction deliverable formats.
The QuickBooks Online add-on enables direct financial sync, letting project managers view profitability and AP/AR status inside Synergy without re-entering data in accounting software.
Reports and data graphs export to CSV, PDF, and Excel formats, giving teams offline access to project performance data and financial summaries without navigating the full UI.
Custom reporting produces inconsistent results and unreliable data, forcing teams to manually cross-check financial summaries against exported spreadsheets rather than trusting the built-in reports.
The user interface is widely described as unintuitive and complex, with a steep learning curve that frustrates new users and requires significant internal training investment to achieve basic competency.
Sync with QuickBooks Online can break silently when chart of accounts structures diverge between systems, leading to miscategorized expenses that are difficult to trace back and reconcile without dedicated accounting review.
Support response times are inconsistent, with some customers reporting multi-day delays on critical issues and a perceived gap between the quality of documentation and the depth of assistance available for edge cases.

What gets migrated
Synergy object support
Object-by-object support for Synergy migrations. Per-pair details surface during scoping.
Projects
Fully supportedThe primary container in Total Synergy. Projects expose all standard fields plus a rich custom field object. We migrate Projects 1:1 and preserve template associations, creation timestamps, and update dates used for delta-sync scoping.
Tasks
Fully supportedTasks are the core work unit and support dependencies, assignees, custom fields, status transitions, and comments. We preserve the full task hierarchy and cross-reference linked dependencies in the target system.
Job Structure
Mapping requiredJob Structure defines the folder layout, naming rules, and folder-level permissions for each Project. It is deeply nested and varies by firm configuration. We extract the full structure as a manifest and rebuild it in the target system, preserving custom naming conventions where supported.
Custom Fields
Mapping requiredTotal Synergy supports text, number, currency, date, dropdown, and multi-select custom fields per Project and Task. The API returns only non-empty custom fields in output. We snapshot the complete custom field schema separately and fill null values with sensible defaults in the target system.
Files and Versions
Mapping requiredFiles include content, all versions, change records (who and when), and file-level permissions. We transfer binary content alongside version history and change metadata, handling 12d Model project files with their associated attributes and default rules.
Contacts
Not in this platformContacts are stored in Total Synergy but the public API does not expose a Contacts endpoint. We migrate contacts via the native import/export JSON bundle which auto-collects associated groups and attributes. Contact data requires format conversion if the destination uses a different schema.
Teams
Not in this platformTeams define group-level permissions and role assignments for Projects and Jobs. The native import/export tool handles Teams as part of the metadata bundle. No standalone API endpoint exists, so we rely on the JSON import/export format for Teams migration.
Attributes
Not in this platformAttributes store metadata values tied to Jobs, Tasks, and Files. They are collected automatically by the import/export tool as part of the job and folder metadata package. There is no public API endpoint for Attributes independently.
Associations
Mapping requiredAssociations link Jobs, Tasks, and other objects across the system to form cross-reference relationships. The import/export tool bundles Associations into the configuration package. We map these relationship records to the target system's equivalent linking mechanism, noting that not all platforms support the same association types.

Connect
Not publicly documented into Synergy. Scopes limited to read-only on the data we move.
Map
We translate Synergy-specific structures (custom fields, objects, value lists) to the destination's model.
Sample
Test with a 50–200 record subset to validate Synergy quirks before production.
