Overview

What this migration involves

Moving from WINLine to Infor Cloudsuite Industrial is a platform-scale migration that must account for WINLine's file-based database architecture in the Classic edition, which has no standard SQL connectivity and no public REST API. WINLine Compact cloud customers have different extraction paths. Infor CloudSuite Industrial (formerly SyteLine) is a manufacturing-specific cloud ERP that requires source data to originate from a SQL Server database and uses its own migration utility with preconfigured import sequences for external ERP data. We coordinate with Software Mechanics or the customer's IT team to produce clean flat-file exports from WINLine, transform those exports into SQL-compatible staging tables, and load them through Infor's documented migration workflow. BOM version history, open AP/AR aging buckets, and multi-warehouse stock levels are the highest-risk objects and receive explicit mapping and reconciliation steps. We do not migrate workflows, automations, custom reports, or integrations as part of standard scope.

Why teams make this switch

Two sides of the same decision

Leaving

WINLine logo

WINLine

What's pushing teams away

  • WinLine Classic uses a file-based database architecture that is difficult to integrate with modern cloud tools, prompting customers to move to cloud-native ERPs with open APIs.
  • Customers report that the UI and workflow design feels dated compared to modern SaaS ERP alternatives, driving adoption of platforms with better user experience.
  • Support for WinLine is provided by a small Australian team, and customers with complex customization needs sometimes find response times slower than expected.
  • Growing businesses outgrow WinLine's SMB-focused feature set, particularly around multi-entity consolidation, advanced analytics, and role-based access control at enterprise scale.

Choosing

Infor CloudSuite Corporate logo

Infor CloudSuite Corporate

What's pulling them in

  • Infor CloudSuite is industry-specific out of the box — manufacturing, distribution, healthcare, and food & beverage editions ship with preconfigured workflows that reduce the need for extensive customization and accelerate time to value for operations-heavy organizations.
  • The platform's deep integration with Excel for financial reporting is frequently cited as a key productivity feature, allowing finance teams to pull data directly and make changes without leaving familiar tooling.
  • AWS-hosted multi-tenant deployment eliminates data center management for IT teams, and Infor OS provides a unified integration layer (ION) that connects the CloudSuite to third-party applications without point-to-point middleware.
  • Organizations with multi-site or multi-country operations choose Infor for its multicurrency, multilanguage, and local regulatory compliance capabilities across 175+ countries, which simplifies consolidation for global CFOs.
  • The two-tier ERP strategy positioning lets corporate headquarters run CloudSuite while subsidiaries run lighter instances, which appeals to complex organizational structures that want standardization without full replacement.

Mapping required

WINLine stores G/L account codes with cost center assignments and tax codes in flat-file account masters. We extract the full COA, parse the hierarchical account structure, and map it to Infor CloudSuite's Account Group and G/L Account Code setup. Tax codes require explicit mapping to Infor's tax configuration tables. WINLine's cost center dimension may map to Infor's Cost Element or Site-based cost structure depending on the customer's manufacturing complexity.

Pair-specific challenges

  • WINLine Classic flat-file extraction requires vendor coordination

WINLine Classic stores data in proprietary flat-file formats (dBase/FoxPro heritage) without standard ODBC/JDBC connectivity. Direct SQL queries against the underlying files are unreliable and can corrupt data if performed without vendor-supplied utilities. We coordinate with Software Mechanics or the customer's IT team to produce clean CSV or structured exports before any migration work begins. This extraction phase adds two to four weeks to the project timeline compared to SQL-connected source systems and must complete before any staging database work can start.

  • Infor CloudSuite Migration Utility requires SQL Server source

Infor CloudSuite Industrial's Migration Utility requires the source database to be SQL Server 2008 or later. WINLine's flat-file exports must be transformed into SQL Server staging tables before the Infor utility can run the preliminary and final data transfers. We build this transformation layer as part of the migration engagement. If WINLine Compact has API access, we may bypass the flat-file export step, but API availability is edition-gated and must be assessed per customer during discovery.

  • BOM version history must be resolved at cutover

WINLine's manufacturing module stores Bill of Materials with version history and effective dates. When migrating production data, we must capture the correct active BOM version at the time of cutover to avoid discrepancies in Infor CloudSuite's manufacturing module. BOMs with pending revisions or future-dated changes are flagged for explicit customer review before finalizing the migration load. Migrations that skip BOM reconciliation may result in production orders using outdated component structures.

  • No workflow or automation migration from WINLine

WINLine workflows, approval chains, and automated alerts do not migrate to Infor CloudSuite's workflow engine. Infor CloudSuite uses Infor OS Workflow and configurable alerts that operate differently from WINLine's internal automation logic. We deliver a written inventory of every active WINLine workflow, approval rule, and scheduled alert with a recommended Infor OS Workflow equivalent. The customer's Infor partner or internal admin rebuilds these post-migration. Custom Crystal Reports or WINLine reporting outputs similarly require rebuilding in Birst or Infor's report writer.

  • Multi-site and intercompany transactions require post-migration configuration

WINLine configurations for multi-site inventory, intercompany sales, or centralized versus decentralized AP/AR processing do not automatically translate to Infor CloudSuite's site and company structure. Infor CloudSuite's multi-site architecture requires explicit setup of Sites, Companies, and intercompany transaction rules that may not have a direct WINLine equivalent. We document the current WINLine multi-site configuration and deliver a recommended Infor CloudSuite site structure as part of the migration handoff, but the actual configuration is performed by the customer's Infor implementation partner.

Migration approach

Six steps for a successful WINLine to Infor CloudSuite Corporate data migration

  1. Discovery and WINLine edition assessment

We audit the source WINLine installation to confirm edition (Classic flat-file versus Compact cloud), active modules in use (accounting, inventory, manufacturing, fixed assets, CRM), approximate record volumes per object, current BOM and production order count, and any known data quality issues. For WINLine Classic, we coordinate with Software Mechanics or the customer's IT team to plan the flat-file export approach and confirm export tool availability. For WINLine Compact, we assess REST API access and endpoint availability. Discovery output is a written migration scope document with estimated extraction timeline.

  2. Source data extraction and staging database setup

For WINLine Classic, we receive flat-file exports produced by the customer's IT team or Software Mechanics and transform them into SQL Server staging tables that Infor CloudSuite's Migration Utility can read. For WINLine Compact, we extract data via available API endpoints or direct database access where permitted. We validate record counts against WINLine's built-in reports before proceeding. The staging database is configured as a SQL Server 2008 or later instance accessible to Infor CloudSuite's migration environment.

  3. Schema mapping and import sequence design

We map WINLine objects to Infor CloudSuite tables following Infor's documented migration sequence for external ERP sources (VISUAL and Fourth Shift examples in Infor documentation provide reference patterns). Prerequisite data (Chart of Accounts, Unit of Measure Codes, Site definitions) is mapped before dependent data (Customers, Vendors, Items). BOM structures are mapped after Items but before Work Orders. Open AP/AR transactions are mapped after Customer and Supplier records are confirmed. Any WINLine data that has no Infor CloudSuite equivalent is flagged as requiring manual entry post-migration.

  4. Sandbox migration and reconciliation

We run a full migration into a test environment using production-like data volume. The customer's operations and finance leads reconcile record counts, spot-check 25-50 records per object against WINLine source reports, and validate that open AP/AR aging matches between WINLine and Infor CloudSuite. BOM version accuracy and inventory quantities receive explicit sign-off. Any mapping corrections and data quality issues are resolved in this phase before production migration begins.

  5. Production migration in dependency order

Production migration runs in record-dependency order: G/L Account structure first, then Site and Company definitions, then Unit of Measure and Currency setup, then Customers and Suppliers, then Items and BOM structures, then Fixed Assets, then Open Orders and Sales Documents, then Open AP/AR, then Work Orders and Production data, then Inventory by Site, then Document attachments via Infor IDM. Each phase emits a reconciliation report (record count, exception count, aged trial balance match) before the next phase begins. For WINLine Classic, any post-export delta records are captured and loaded in a final incremental pass.

  6. Cutover, validation, and handoff

WINLine write access is frozen at cutover. A final delta migration captures any records modified during the migration window. Infor CloudSuite becomes the system of record once reconciliation is confirmed. We deliver the workflow and automation inventory document to the customer's Infor implementation partner. We support a one-week hypercare window for reconciliation issues raised by the customer's operations and finance teams. We do not configure Infor CloudSuite workflows, intercompany transactions, or Birst reports as part of standard migration scope; these are separate engagements with the customer's Infor partner.
